Waipi'o Valley....

If I was to sum up this little adventure, I would say very tough but worth the work....
You start at the top of the valley and go down a road (walking unless you have 4 wheel drive) that is over a mile long and a an average of 25 % grade but there were places that you felt like you were about to tumble head over heels down... My legs were actually shaking when we got down... Kids did great... Then we walked a mile up the valley to the tallest waterfalls in Hawaii.. around 1400 ft.. Beautiful... We couldn't get right to the base of them because it is private land... Then we turned around and walked the other way to the ocean.... Again, beautiful....
Now for the tough part, the walk back up.... That same steep grade over a mile going up! With the kids.... Aspyn was feeling sick... pretty sure she had a fever so she rode on Matt's back the whole time and actually fell asleep. I have a picture of Matt carrying her and you can actually see the sweat dripping off of him...Crazy! Needless to say we were all wiped out last night and slept in this morning... We are heading back to Hilo today to see the other waterfalls.....Hoping the hikes to them will not be so strenuous.
